The Zamioculcas zamiifolia, also known as the Zanzibar Gem, ZZ Plant, Zuzu plant and Emerald palm, is a virtually indestructible plant that’s perfect for newbies or if you don't have time to care for your plant. His architecturally interesting shiny green leaves point upright and are packed with fleshy moisture. This plant is seriously so hardy it can handle dark conditions and go for weeks without being watered. Now your ears perked up! This guy is a great plant for offices and everyday spaces. They were proven by NASA to remove toxins such as benzene, xylene and toluene from the air.
The ZZ plant originated in Africa where it is prone to droughts and is from the Araceae family which is the same family as the hardy Peace Lily.
This ‘eternity’ plant is so low maintenance it’s almost no maintenance. In fact, if you show him too much love he will die. Plant yours in free-draining mix and water only when he's dried out. Test by putting your finger an inch into the soil. If it’s wet - leave it alone. Simple!
The ZZ plant can handle direct light but watch out for burning on the leaves if it is left indirect light. Additionally, curling leaves, yellowing and leaning can all be an indication of too much light. When you notice curling taking place, it typically means the plant is trying to move away from the light source. Move the plant to a shadier location or away from the harsh light source. You can also try filtering the light with curtains or blinds.
Our ZZ comes delivered to you planted in a 125mm nursery pot and you can now purchase him with a self-watering pot or without a pot (please use the dropdown menu)

Succulents don’t like a lot of water and long periods of drought won’t hurt yours one bit, they’re the best type of plant for forgetful folk, or those that are away from home a fair bit, so don’t feel bad if you haven’t given him a drink yet. One of the most common mistakes people make is watering them too much! The best potting mix for succulents is a well draining one. Using a good potting mix of porous soil for succulents is super important to prevent overwatering. Water your succulent when the soil is dry. Soak it thoroughly rather than giving it regular sips and always empty excess water from the saucer as it will rot the roots. If you’re struggling try one of our self-watering pots they make a plant killer look like a pro! In winter succulents need even less water. You can touch the soil each week and if it’s even a bit damp then leave it alone and try again the following week. Succulents need little moisture and although it seems cruel, a sure-fire way to kill your beauty is by watering it frequently. This will turn it to mush.
If in doubt, leave it without.
