Plants are classified as 'climbers' if they have a vertical orientation and do not have a trunk, instead relying on other plants to provide a scaffold.
Climbers use differing methods to secure themselves like thorns, suckers, spiraling growth, and tendrils. Ground cover 'creepers' may yield the same result of covering a fence when trained up a mesh structure and climbers may serve as ground cover 'creepers' if there is nothing to climb up. Most climbers have a rewarding floral display (colour or perfume).
