Description

The Murraya paniculata is one of the most popular hedging plants growing around. You'll know him from his trademark heavily scented white flowers that bloom from spring through to summer, and intermittently through the year in warmer climates. A dense growth of foliage means he's perfect as a hedging plant or a fancy privacy screen.

Rich deep glossy evergreen leaves ensure he will be a looker all year long, with his lime-green new growth providing a stunning contrast. As an easily-pruned variety, he can grow large or be kept small to maintain the desired height - a real all-rounder!

Place him in full sun to partly shaded positions in well-drained soil for the best effect. A sunny position will give you a prolonged flowering season (score!).

  • Quick Facts
  • Use me for: Larger hedges and screening

I grow to: 3 - 4m tall, can be easily pruned as 1m high hedge

Where to place me: Full sun to part shade. Frost sensitive.

How far to space me: hedge spacing 1m, otherwise 2-3m apart

Watering conditions: Keep moist during dry weather. Moderate watering requirements once they’re established

My features: scented flowers, evergreen, hardy

Please take care when choosing your plants. Some plants are poisonous and individuals may be more sensitive or react differently.

  • Size
  • I grow to 3 - 4m tall, but can easily be pruned to maintain a height of 1m and a width of 50cm without becoming woody in appearance. Space me 1m apart for hedging or 2-3m if you want me to stand solitary.

I am currently 10-12 cm high, growing in 50mm nursery grow pots.

  • Growing
  • Fertilise
Fertilise at least once a year with a high-quality slow-release fertiliser during the growing season.

    Water
Water only as needed and don’t let him stand with wet feet. The problem is that over-watered plants can display similar symptoms like dry, thirsty plants. If the soil is moist then the issue is unlikely to be lack of water.

    Soil
Like other citrus trees, soil deficiencies may show up in a yellowing of the leaves. Improve the soil with regular mulching with chunky mulch is a good way to prevent nutrient deficiencies. Please keep the mulch away from the stem as this may promote fungal diseases.

  • Delivery
  • Our plants are beautifully grown, mature tube stock with well-developed roots. They are guaranteed sun-hardened, can be planted directly into the ground and are excellent performers for your garden.

We carefully package your plants into a customised box to ensure safe transport, healthy plants and delivery fast to your door.
