Alocasia cuprea

Floating around your social channels is this unicorn! The Alocasia cuprea is pretty famous and you can finally have her shipped to the door. Some call her the mirror plant or jewel alocasia, she is a rare beauty with big, glossy green leaves on the top and a deep, copper colour on the underside. She adds depth to & indoor collection.

Description

Alocasia cuprea is one of the most popular houseplants of 2021. You'll know her for her trademark big elephant ear leaves that are a copper and dark green colour with contrasting silver veins. Hailing from the tropical rainforests of Borneo this houseplant loves a hot, humid environment. Place her somewhere with bright, filtered light but not direct sunlight and somewhere nice and warm like the kitchen or bathroom. This plant is not the easiest houseplant to look after but with the right amount of care and love you will be rewarded with a true gem. As an indoor plant, she won’t grow taller than about a metre and geesh, she will take a while to reach that. In the wintertime move her towards the light 💡this is the key to keeping your Alocasia happy in the cooler months.

  • Quick Facts
  • What to use me for: I am a great tropical houseplant

    I grow to: 1m high, 80cm wide

Where to place me: I'm a tropical gal and like a nice filtered light in a warm spot. I do not like direct sunlight touching my leaves or the cold

Watering conditions: Keep my soil nice and moist throughout the warmer months, as the temperature drops reduce how frequently you water me

Soil Conditions: Make sure you use a nice, well draining potting mix and that my pot has a hole in the bottom for drainage. I hate having soggy feet.

Please take care when choosing your plants. Some plants are poisonous and individuals may be more sensitive or react differently.

  • Size
  • I am currently 15-20cm tall in a 50mm nursery tube

  • Growing
  • In winter you might notice your Alocasia loose her leaves and turn into a little stump, this is totally normal as they tend to go dormant once the temperatures drop. The best place to put her is in the bathroom, and only water sparingly. If you can nurture her through these times she will reshoot in Spring.

Prefers filtered light to bright indirect light. Requires high humidity to be happy and are extremely sensitive to the cold. Keep moist over the warmer months, on the dryer side but not soggy or waterlogged. Reduce watering in the cooler months and check on soil frequently.

Feed with slow-release fertiliser once every six months. In the warmer months, feed fortnightly with an organic liquid fertiliser.

  • Delivery
  • Our plants are beautifully grown and have well-developed roots. They are hardened, can be planted directly into the planters and are excellent performing Indoor plants - it’s our plant promise guarantee!

We carefully package your plants into a customised box to ensure safe transport, healthy plants and fast, free delivery to your door
