Anthurium Arisa Red

A classic, classy red flowering chick. She has glossy, green heart-shaped leaves and her flowers are long-lasting. She is easy going and makes a great plant for a new plant parent or someone with a busy life ( I think that is just about all of us).

Description

Anthuriums are the popular flowering girls in the houseplant shed. Loved for their hardy nature and of course the ability to offer a flower, yet the colourful heart-shape is not a flower but a spathe. Though it looks like a waxy bloom, it is actually a spathe or shield-like leaf. Its function is to protect the spadix, which contains several tiny flowers when in bloom.

If you’re a bit of a nervous foliage owner, she’s a great beginner plant that’ll make it easy for you. She will bloom throughout the year, but generally flowers for about three months. After three months the cycle starts again. Wintertime brings fewer flowers, but once the sun shines, the Anthurium will flower some more.

Pop her in a free-draining potting mix and water when she’s dry. She likes moist but not soggy soil and thrives in a bathroom where the humidity is high or a bright sunny spot in your living room. If you can do this for her those bright waxy flowers will last for months.

  • Quick Facts
  • What to use me for: I’m a low maintenance but bright and clean feature plant for a desk. Outside I’m the perfect understorey plant and add a pop of light to a dull living room.

I grow to: I’ll reach 30-60cms high and the same across.

Where to place me: Indoors I like bright, indirect light but outside I need a shady spot.

Soil Conditions: I like moist potting mix and free-draining soil outside

Please take care when choosing your plants. Some plants are poisonous and individuals may be more sensitive or react differently.

  • Size
  • I am currently 10cm tall in a 50mm nursery tube

  • Growing
  • The best thing you can do to promote blooms is to grow her in her preferred conditions just like any plant would want you to do.

    • Indoor plants use containers with bottom drainage and well-draining soil mix. Try half, and half mix of potting soil and orchid soil or perlite will provide the kind of soil anthuriums prefer.
    • Too little indoor light may cause the blooms to slow or stop altogether.
    • During the growing season, water weekly to keep the soil moist, not soggy and allow the soil to slightly dry between waterings.
    • Create humidity, mist the foliage several times weekly. The Anthurium does particularly well in bathrooms, as they like high humidity. Humidifiers are great for creating humidity, think of it as your new best friend.
    • When growing outdoors, place in a spot with partial shade. Look super planted in mass. Indoors requires a bright location with indirect light and protection from drafts.
    • Feed with a liquid feed during the growing season.
    • Re-pot every other year
    • If the leaves have a yellow glow, this means probably too much direct sunlight, move the plant to a place where the sun shines less directly.
    • Green flowers indicate too little sunlight and you should, therefore, place the plant closer to a window or place it more in the sunlight.
  • Delivery
  • Our plants are beautifully grown and have well-developed roots. They are hardened, can be planted directly into the planters and are excellent performing Indoor plants - it’s our plant promise guarantee!

We carefully package your plants into a customised box to ensure safe transport, healthy plants and fast, free delivery to your door
