Hymenocallis littoralis

Description

Hymenocallis Littoralis is commonly known as the Beach-Spider Lily.

It’s a delicate bulb perennial with strappy green leaves and large, white vanilla-scented flowers that reach out with long tendrils from the main bloom. These show-stopper flowers appear in mid-summer to late autumn.

Beach-Spider Lily looks stunning mass-planted and creates a bright lifting feature in containers on the deck. They suit tropical and cottage style gardens and thrive in coastal spaces without a lot of maintenance.

Give Hymenocallis Littoralis full sun to part shade and water when its dry. If you can beef up your soil with a good quality fertiliser and pop down some mulch these spider lilies will come back year on year to take your breath away.

Quick Facts:

  • What to use me for: I look stunning in the flower border especially mass-planted. I like containers and tolerate a coastal garden despite my fragile appearance.

  • I grow to: I’ll reach 50-70cms high.

  • Where to place me:  I like full sun to partial shade.

  • How far to space me:  Give me 25-30cms elbow room.

  • Soil Conditions: I’m pretty low maintenance and I’ll make a go of it in most soils, but I really thrive in well-watered fertile soils.
