Description

She is a hardy gal withstanding drought, light frost and a bit of neglect here and there but remember she is an outdoor plant and so will thrive indoors in bright light. Her evergreen leaves grow in large banana-like fan formations and get huge - we’re talking six metres in height. She will stay contained in a pot but you will need to move her on up as she grows out of her pot.

What's in the box?

1 x 140mm Strelitzia Nicolai Giant "White Bird Of Paradise"
1 x Recycled Pot (your choice of colour) + Coir Overlay

  • Quick Facts
    • What to use me for: I’m large but upright so I can fit into narrower spaces. I look pretty great in pots on the deck  and my cut flowers last weeks indoors.

    • I grow to: I’ll reach six to eight metres in height as an adult.

    • In a pot I grow to: Put me in a pot in your home and I'll just grow to 2 metres.
    • Where to place me:  Pop me in a sunny location indoors, yeah i'd love that. Ill slow in growth if kept in low light.

    • Watering: The best way to tell if your Bird of Paradise needs to be watered is to stick your finger in the soil. If the top 50% of the soil is dry, water your plant. Water enough to make sure water is flowing through the drainage hole in the bottom of the pot, taking care to make sure there is no standing water left in the saucer.

    • My features: If you want a large, lush tropical feel you won’t do better than me. I’m hardy and self-reliant once established with the most amazing purple and white flowers. Does this sound like a dating ad?

    • Earthy pot: The pot was created by Elho. They recycle 5.6 million tons of plastic waste every year and like magic, turn it into fancy products for us, in a factory 100% powered by wind energy (we love that) and these pots are made with recycled materials, and they’re recyclable too!

  • Size
  • Me The Fancy Plant = I come to you in a 140mm pot approx 30-40cm tall (fancy I know)

Me The Earthy Friendly Recycled Pot = I'm soft and round with a height of 16.8 cm  &  a diameter of 18.3 cm

  • Growing
  • Your Bird of Paradise appreciates a wipe to remove the dust from her glossy dark leaves. Feed her once a month during the spring and summer with a liquid fertiliser for indoor plants.

*If her leaves begin to turn brown along the edges, it may be caused by chemicals in your tap water. Use filtered water, or leave tap water in an open container overnight before watering to allow some of the chemicals to evaporate.

The Bird of Paradise is an easy-going plant and is generally pest-free but can be prone to spider mites. Treat pests as soon as they appear with weekly sprays of a natural pesticide like neem oil and regular wipe-downs of the plant.

    Some common problem-solving tips.

    • Splits along sides of leaves = Normal adaptive precaution to help the plant bear strong winds in its natural habitat
    • Yellowing lower leaves, wet potting mix = Overwatered
    • Wilting, curling leaves, dry potting mix = Thirsty plant, underwatered

  • Delivery
  • We carefully package your plants into a custom size box to ensure safe transport and a healthy plant delivered to your door.

Please take care when choosing your plants. Some plants are poisonous and individuals may be more sensitive or react differently
