Hailing from tropical rainforests where they enjoy a humid, moist environment with dappled sunlight the Birds Nest Fern will grow well in a nice, humid spot with bright light or under a tree in a tropical garden.

He is a relatively slow-growing epiphytic fern with large, glossy green leaves with dark brown margins. He has contrasting furry brown spots on his undersides (scientifically called sporangia, where reproductive spores are produced and stored).

This pet-friendly beauty will bring the tropical vibes to your collection.

  • Quick Facts
  • What to use me for: I look mighty fine in a bathroom indoors or plant me in a tropical garden under a tree

I grow to: If I am really happy I have the ability to get to 1m high but in most cases, I usually grow to about 30-40cm high, 50cm wide

Where to place me: I need semi-shade to shade conditions to prevent my foliage from crisping up.

My features: My leaves grow in a vase-shaped rosette creating a nest-like center hence my nickname

Please take care when choosing your plants. Some plants are poisonous and individuals may be more sensitive or react differently.

  • Size
  • I come as a three pack and am good to grow sitting at 15cm tall in an 85mm nursery tube

  • Growing
  • Drink preferences: I am used to living in a rainforest, so I like to be nice and moist all the time but be sure I am not sitting in water otherwise my roots will rot. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light. Do not water directly into the centre of your fern, but instead, water around it.

Potting needs: I will do well in a pot 170mm or bigger make sure it has a drainage hole so I can breathe and don't skimp on the soil I really like good quality, potting mix.

Tips and tricks: I like a nice humid environment so give me a mist every so often, and I will love you lots

I look good with: This babe looks good as a stand-alone but if you want a lush looking tropical vibe, her with Spider PlantMonstera deliciosa and Spathiphyllum Sweet Lauretta.

  • Delivery
  • Our plants are beautifully grown and have well-developed roots. They are hardened, can be planted directly into the planters, and are excellent performing Indoor plants - it’s our plant promise guarantee!
